The electric vehicle market can be hard to pin down. After the 2023 model year, Chevrolet saw fit to discontinue the Bolt, despite its popularity as an affordably priced EV with decent range. As Chevy concentrated on developing the Ultium platform for its future EVs, fans of the Bolt – including a fair number of GM employees – expressed their wish to see it come back. Their pleas were heard, and now the model is on dealer lots as one of the first vehicles designated for model year 2027. While it hasn’t been drastically restyled, there are some significant improvements, from faster charging to safer battery. Its estimated range has increased a bit as well, from 247 miles to 255 miles.
The minor aesthetic changes range from refreshed front and rear styling to a more user-friendly interior with a modern, open dash and increased storage on the front passenger’s side. Those who lean on looks as an important trait will appreciate the heightened style of the RS trim, which joins the lineup this time around. But the ’27 Bolt’s headline is its new peak charging speed, which juices the battery 250% times faster. It becomes the first Chevrolet EV to get a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, opening up a much more extensive network of available stations to make road-tripping a low-stress proposition.
