2026 GMC Terrain

2026 GMC
Terrain

The GMC Terrain continues its third-generation journey with the full expansion of its trim lineup for 2026. Following last year's comprehensive redesign, the compact crossover now offers the complete family of trim packages with the rugged AT4 and premium Denali trims joining the Elevation. This two-row utility maintains the updated styling elements introduced in 2025, following the same design cues seen on GMC's larger vehicles.

Each trim brings a distinct personality to the Terrain range: the well-equipped Elevation serves as the foundation, while the new AT4 adds moderate off-road capability with increased ground clearance and protective underbody elements. The Denali rounds out the lineup with a focus on refinement through upgraded interior materials and abundant amenities. All versions retain the Terrain's emphasis on technology with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment array and a comprehensive driver-assist suite.

Trims and Powertrains

The 2026 Terrain comes in three trims: Elevation, AT4, and Denali. All of them have a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 175 horsepower. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard with the Elevation, but all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional. The AT4 and Denali get standard AWD. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) manages the power in the FWD-equipped Elevation, while any Terrain with AWD gets an eight-speed automatic gearbox instead.

The Elevation with FWD has an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 26 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. With AWD, the Terrain (in any trim) achieves 25 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the open road. For cargo, the Terrain offers 29.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 63.5 cubic feet behind the first row. There’s an 800-pound towing limit for the FWD Elevation, which expands to 1,500 pounds on all trims with AWD.

Standard Features

The Elevation has remote start, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, LED exterior lighting with automatic headlamps, single-zone automatic climate control, premium fabric upholstery, proximity keyless entry, and push-button start. GMC also includes an 11-inch driver information display, heated power side mirrors, rear privacy glass, a 12-volt cargo area outlet, rear air vents, two USB ports, and 17-inch wheels.

The AT4’s off-pavement equipment includes selectable Terrain drive modes (exclusive to this trim), a lifted ride height, a front skid plate, red recovery hooks, and 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. There are also numerous premium amenities, like seats upholstered in a blend of fabric and CoreTec leatherette, dual-zone automatic climate control, an automatic power liftgate, an eight-way power driver's seat, upgraded exterior LED lighting, rain-sensing windshield wipers, fog lamps, a trailer hitch, unique exterior treatments, roof rails, a heated wiper park, and wireless device charging.

The luxury-focused Denali expands on the AT4's equipment roster (minus the off-road upgrades) by adding perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, an eight-way power front passenger seat, LED fog lamps, a driver's memory system, exclusive exterior accents, a rear camera washer, and 19-inch wheels.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Every 2026 Terrain has an extensive collection of advanced safety technologies. This includes forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, blind-zone steering assist, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, side bicycle alert, rear cross-traffic braking, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and intersection automatic emergency braking. The list of standard driver aids continues with Safety Alert Seat (the driver’s seat vibrates for certain safety warnings), automatic high beams, rear seat reminder, rear parking sensors, and a following distance indicator. The Technology Package II, optional on the Elevation and AT4 and included with the Denali, adds rear pedestrian alert, a surround-view monitor, traffic sign recognition, a rear camera mirror, and front LED fog lights. Every Terrain is set up with airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a rearview monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

All Terrain trims feature an amply sized (15-inch) touchscreen multimedia system. It’s based on Google built-in for access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and additional apps and comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an audio system with six speakers. All trims are set up for subscription access to 5G Wi-Fi hotspot capability and OnStar for emergency support and other services.
