Sierra 1500

As GMC’s best-seller and one of the most popular vehicles on the road, the Sierra 1500 full-sized truck is a crucial component of the company’s lineup. This success comes from a wide range of trims spanning work-ready basics to luxury editions with the likes of standard leather upholstery, massaging seats, chrome accents, and mechanical upgrades. This formula, which continues for the 2026 model year, includes the AT4 and AT4X off-road variants that make the GMC Sierra 1500 even more adventure-ready. Regardless of how the ‘26 Sierra is packaged, it’s ready for everyday commuting, heavy hauling, or whatever the road ahead demands.

Trims, Powertrains, and Configurations

Eight Sierra 1500 trims are on offer: the Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. The Pro, SLE, and Elevation get a 2.7-liter “TurboMax” four-cylinder generating 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5.3-liter V8 making 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. is optional on these trims and is included with the SLT and Denali. The AT4 and AT4X off-road-oriented editions have the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel. Rated at 305 horsepower and 495 lb.-ft., this engine is optional on the SLE, Elevation, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. A 6.2-liter V8, with 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft., is standard on the Denali Ultimate and optional on the SLT, AT4, AT4X, and Denali.

The four-cylinder pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the V8s and the diesel use a ten-speed. Rear-wheel drive is standard across most of the lineup, with four-wheel drive optional on the trims that don’t already have it (4WD is standard on the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate).

The cab choices include regular (two-door), double (two full front doors and smaller rear doors), and crew (four standard doors). The available bed lengths are 69.92 inches (short), 79.44 inches (standard), and 98.2 inches (long). The regular cab is limited to the Pro, while a double cab with a standard bed is offered for the Pro, SLE, and Elevation. All trims are available with a crew cab configuration and a short or standard bed. The AT4X and Denali Ultimate are made only with the crew cab and short bed combination.

The Sierra 1500’s payload limits span from 1,720 to 2,240 pounds. With the proper equipment in place, the towing capacity tops out at 13,300 pounds. Fuel economy as estimated by the EPA varies according to the combination of engine and drivetrain: The TurboMax returns 17 to 19 mpg in the city and 18 to 22 mpg on the highway. With V8s, the 5.3-liter Sierra provides 15 to 17 mpg city/19 to 21 mpg highway, and the 6.2-liter posts 14 to 16 city/17 to 20 mpg highway. The Duramax diesel is rated for 20 to 24 mpg around town and 22 to 29 mpg on the open road.

Standard Features by Trim

The Pro is the most no-nonsense trim, getting LED exterior lighting, an automatic locking rear differential, manual climate controls, fabric or vinyl upholstery, a 3.5-inch driver information display, vinyl flooring, heated side mirrors, cruise control, USB ports, black bumpers, and 17-inch steel wheels. The SLE gets more comfort and convenience with remote start, automatic climate control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a ten-way power driver’s seat, the MultiPro tailgate, a 12.3-inch driver information display, keyless entry, push-button start, a trailer brake controller, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The Elevation focuses on styling upgrades with body-color bumpers, LED fog lamps, black exterior trim, rear window defrost, and 20-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels.

Upscale elements highlight the SLT, with leather upholstery, a 12-way power passenger seat, a driver’s memory system, power-folding side mirrors, chrome exterior detailing, a power tailgate, upgraded trailering hardware, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. For off-road drivers, the AT4 supplies special suspension tuning, enhanced traction control, skid plates, mud-terrain tires, recovery hooks, and a spray-on bedliner. Its interior comfort is enhanced with heated and ventilated front seats.

Luxury plays a larger role in the Denali, which is fitted with an adaptive suspension for a smoother ride and heated rear seats. This trim’s exterior touches include a power-sliding rear window, a unique grille, chrome side steps, and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. More advanced off-road equipment underscores the AT4X with reinforced suspension components, a two-speed transfer case, and locking differentials for greater capability in demanding conditions. Inside, it treats its passengers to premium leather seating surfaces, 16-way power front seats with massage, a head-up display, and wood interior accents. Most of the AT4X’s cabin upgrades are carried over to the Denali Ultimate. This range-topper also has a sunroof, a digital rearview mirror, and extensive use of full-grain leather on the seats, door panels, instrument panel, and center console lid.

Safety Technology

The GMC Pro Safety technology suite is included on every Sierra 1500. The suite bundles forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, following distance indicator, and automatic high beams. The AT4 and above also get blind-spot monitoring, which is optional on the lower trims.

GM’s Safety Alert Seat is included in the AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate; it’s optional for the SLT. The AT4 and above have adaptive cruise control and a surround-view monitor, which are available on most lower trims. Super Cruise hands-free highway driving is standard on the Denali Ultimate and optional for the Denali. Every trim is equipped with airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, and a rearview camera.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Pro has a 7-inch color touchscreen infotainment system, while the higher trims move up to a 13.4-inch unit. Every Sierra 1500 gets wireless smartphone connection (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and access to OnStar services. SiriusXM satellite radio is standard on most trims and optional for the base Pro. Audio in the Pro, SLE, and Elevation trims comes through a multi-speaker audio system (two speakers in the regular cab, six speakers in the other configurations). A seven-speaker Bose upgrade is the rule on the AT4 and Denali; it’s available on the Elevation and SLT. The AT4X and Denali Ultimate get the most premium sound situation: a Bose with a dozen speakers.
