2026 GMC Canyon

2026 GMC
Canyon

The GMC Canyon deftly fills a need for those for whom a full-sized truck is just too much. For 2026, this midsized pickup presents a comprehensive four-trim lineup crowned by the extra-capable AT4X, which is now available with a factory lift kit that adds 1.5 inches to the ground clearance. GMC has upped its game by offering a new Nightfall Essentials package for the AT4 grades that adds black-finished 20-inch wheels and black badging, and the AT4X can now be equipped with Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, which enhance impact absorption and prevent the truck from bottoming out. In addition, a neutral paint color called Coastal Dune has joined the exterior palette.

Trims and Powertrains

GMC offers four Canyon trims for model year 2026: Elevation, AT4, Denali, and AT4X. The sole configuration is a five-seat crew cab with a 61.7-inch cargo bed. All versions have a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine making 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. Elevation buyers can choose between the standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) or optional four-wheel drive (4WD), while the higher trims get standard 4WD. An eight-speed automatic transmission controls both drivetrains.

Most Canyon trims can tow up to 7,700 pounds, while the AT4X is rated for 6,000. Payload capacity ranges from 1,260 to 1,610 pounds, depending on the trim. The EPA-estimated fuel economy varies by trim and drivetrain, ranging from 17 to 20 mpg in city driving and 17 to 23 mpg on the highway.

Standard Features

The Canyon Elevation comes with single-zone climate control, fabric upholstery, carpeted flooring, automatic LED headlights, proximity keyless entry, push-button ignition, a manual sliding rear window, an 11-inch driver information display, a remote-locking tailgate, heated power side-view mirrors, a towing package (with a receiver hitch and connector pins), a 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat, rear privacy glass, rear air vents, five USB ports, and 18-inch black-finished aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires. The most significant optional grouping for this base trim is the Convenience Package (highlights: dual-zone auto climate control, remote start, LED fog lamps, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an EZ Lift power lock and release tailgate).

The AT4 gains extra capability through an off-road suspension with a 2-inch factory lift and an auto-locking rear differential. GMC includes other upgrades such as remote start, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, upholstery in a blend of fabric and CoreTec leatherette, an EZ-Lift tailgate with MultiStow, an eight-way power driver's seat, LED fog lights, front sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, a 120-volt power outlet, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, hill descent control, and red recovery hooks. Besides the aforementioned Nightfall Essentials Package, this trim is eligible for a couple of feature-packed optional groupings. The AT4 Premium Package will add heated and ventilated front seats with black perforated leather upholstery, driver’s side memory, wireless device charging, a heated steering wheel, and a six-way power front passenger’s seat with power lumbar support. The Technology Plus Package will furnish a sunroof, a head-up display, an acoustic laminated windshield with solar glazing, a Bose audio upgrade, and some additional driver-assist technologies.

The Denali exchanges the AT4’s ruggedized off-road gear for more upscale touches, including perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, a driver's memory system, an eight-way power front passenger seat, a rear center armrest, wireless device charging, and 20-inch wheels. The AT4X combines the go-anywhere attributes of the AT4 and the premium amenities of the Denali. It also gets power-locking front and rear differentials, Multimatic DSSV dampers, a power sunroof, off-road rocker protectors, forward and rear underbody cameras with a wash function, and 17-inch wheels. The optional AT4X AEV Edition will add more skid plates, an exclusive rear bumper with heavy-duty recovery points, an upgraded stamped-steel front bumper, 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and AEV branding inside and out.

Safety Technology

The standard Canyon Pro Safety system includes forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, rear cross-traffic braking, blind-zone steering assist with trailering support, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, following distance indicator, rear seat reminder, rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams. The Denali and AT4X also get a surround-view monitor, adaptive cruise control, rear pedestrian alert, and the Safety Alert Seat. All Canyon trims are supported with multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a rearview monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Infotainment in the 2026 GMC Canyon is managed via an 11.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and Google built-in apps. The system also has Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and access to OnStar services. The Elevation and AT4 feature a six-speaker audio system that’s upgraded to a seven-speaker Bose setup in the Denali and AT4X (it’s optional on the AT4).
