Mechanical Specs
Buyers of the 2026 Colorado have five choices: the WT (Work Truck), LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2. The powertrain is the same for every trim of this midsized pickup: a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder TurboMax engine (output: 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque) with an 8-speed automatic transmission. A rear-wheel drivetrain (RWD) is standard on the WT and LT, but they’re eligible for four-wheel drivetrain (4WD) that comes standard on the Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2. The WT and LT are the most fuel-efficient, returning an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city and 23 mpg highway with RWD, which drops to 17 city/21 highway with 4WD; the Trail Boss and Z71 carry the same ratings as the lower trims with 4WD. The ZR2 carries the weight of additional components and achieves 17 mpg for both city and highway.
Every trim gets a four-door crew cab, a 61.7-inch bed, and a fully boxed frame. Standard ground clearance is 7.9 inches, which increases to 8.9 inches for the Z71. The Trail Boss has an ultra-wide stance and an off-road suspension with a 2-inch factory lift, giving it 9.51 inches of clearance. The ZR2 has a high-performance suspension with Multimatic DSSV dampers and a 3-inch factory lift, for 10.7 inches of clearance.
All 4WD models have hill descent control, an Autotrac transfer case (single speed on the WT and LT, two-speed on the higher trims) and an automatic locking rear differential. The ZR2 alone is outfitted with front and rear driver-selectable full-locking differentials. A selector with Normal and Tow/Haul drive modes comes standard. The ZR2 adds Off-Road and Terrain settings, which the Trail Boss and Z71 may add as an option, but Baja Mode is exclusive to the ZR2. The Colorado is rated to tow 7,700 pounds with the Advanced Trailering Package (standard on the Trail Boss and Z71) which includes a 2-inch receiver hitch, a 7-wire electrical harness, a trailer brake controller, an automatic locking rear differential, and Chevrolet’s In-Vehicle Trailering App.
