The 2025 Terrain’s trim range is a work in progress. The base grade, Elevation, is the only one currently available, but later this year the gutsy AT4 and upscale Denali trims will join it. All feature the same turbocharged 175-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. In a front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration, which is standard with the Elevation, the powerplant produces 184 lb.-ft. of torque and is connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). In all-wheel-drive (AWD) form, which is optional with the Elevation and standard for the other trims, the Terrain’s engine makes 203 lb.-ft of torque and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Elevation with FWD is EPA-rated to achieve 26 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway. The AWD fuel economy around town changes to 24 mpg. Towing capacity ranges from 800 pounds with FWD to 1,500 pounds with AWD. The Terrain provides 29.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seats, which increases to 63.5 cubic feet behind the front row when the back seats are folded down.
While the Elevation trim kicks off the 2025 Terrain lineup, it’s far from an entry-level edition. Its standard equipment includes remote start, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, single-zone automatic climate control, LED exterior lighting with automatic headlamps, proximity keyless entry, and push-button ignition. It also has fabric upholstery, an 11-inch driver information display, heated power side-view mirrors, rear privacy glass, a 12-volt cargo area outlet, rear air vents, two USB ports, and 17-inch wheels.
GMC hasn’t yet released full details on the other trims, but the AT4 will feature a lifted ride height, a selectable Terrain Mode, hill descent control, metal underbody protection, animated exterior lighting, and 17-inch all-terrain tires. The Denali will move up to 19-inch wheels and while making the drive extra plush with heated rear outboard seats and an exclusive damper system for improved ride comfort.
GMC offers an array of a la carte upgrades for the Terrain Elevation, such as a dual-pane power sunroof, a two-tone exterior look, and a driver’s memory system, as well as some optional packages. The Convenience Package II includes an eight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar controls, dual-zone automatic climate control, a hands-free power liftgate, a heated wiper park, wireless device charging, rain-sensing intermittent windshield wipers, and other amenities. The Convenience Package III adds heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar controls, and a driver’s memory system. The Elevation Premium Package combines the elements of the Convenience Package II with CoreTec leatherette upholstery and 19-inch aluminum wheels.
GMC has expanded the suite of advanced driver-assistance features as part of the Terrain’s redesign. It now consists of forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, blind-zone steering assist, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, side bicycle alert, rear cross-traffic braking, reverse automatic braking, intersection automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, rear seat reminder, and a following distance indicator. In addition, all trims have proprietary Teen Driver technology, GM’s Safety Alert Seat (the driver’s seat vibrates during specific safety notifications), and rear parking sensors. The available Technology Package II will furnish rear pedestrian alert, the HD Surround Vision view monitor, traffic sign recognition, a rear camera mirror, and front LED fog lights. The Terrain’s safety equipment also includes the HD Rear Vision Camera, a set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and .
The Terrain’s expansive 15-inch touchscreen makes it easy to manage all of the infotainment features. The system incorporates Google built-in with Google Assistant, Google Maps, and access to other popular apps. The Elevation hosts a six-speaker sound system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and subscription-based access to SiriusXM satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and OnStar services.
