The 2024 Sierra 1500 offers a diverse lineup consisting of eight distinct trims: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. It’s ready to accommodate an array of passenger situations with a choice of regular, crew, and double cab configurations. The regular cab can be paired with either a standard bed or long bed, while the crew cab can be set up with a short or standard bed. The double cab variant is exclusively available with the standard bed.
Four engines are on tap with the ’24 Sierra 1500. The first is the TurboMax (standard in the Pro, SLE, and Elevation): a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that makes 310 hp and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. The second is the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 (standard in the SLT and Denali and available for the Pro, SLE, and Elevation) producing 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. Next up is the 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel (standard in the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate and optional for the SLE, Elevation, SLT, and Denali) whisking 305 hp and 495 lb.-ft. of torque. The final option is the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 (available for the SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate), which churns out 420 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque.
The TurboMax has an eight-speed automatic transmission as its powertrain partner, while the other engines get a ten-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard in the Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, and Denali, but are eligible for four-wheel drive, which is standard in the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. With the Duramax, the ’24 Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds. This decreases to 13,100 lb. with the 6.2-liter V8 and 11,200 lb. with the 5.3-liter V8. The TurboMax can tow up to 9,500 lb. As for fuel economy, the range goes from 15 mpg city/19 mpg highway on the low end to 23 mpg city/29 mpg highway on the high end.
The Pro trim is nicely appointed with LED lights (headlights, daytime running lights, and taillights), black recovery hooks, the CornerStep rear bumper, cargo tie-down points, remote keyless entry, push-button ignition, vinyl upholstery, single-zone manual climate control, a 12-volt power outlet, two USB ports (one for data and the other for charging), a 3.5-inch driver information center, and manually adjustable front seats.
The SLE adds remote start, proximity keyless entry, cloth upholstery, an auto-locking rear differential, LED cargo lights, deep-tinted rear glass, GM’s six-function MultiPro tailgate, heated side mirrors, an EZ-lift tailgate, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch driver information display, two 120-volt power outlets, rear USB charging ports, Hitch Guidance, cruise control, and rubberized-vinyl floor mats. The Elevation is heightened with LED fog lights and a rear window de-fogger, while the SLT gains power-folding side mirrors with driver’s side auto-dimming, rain-sensing wipers, perforated leather upholstery, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, position memory for the driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an up-level rear seat with storage.
The trail-conquering AT4 receives a two-speed transfer case, a heavy-duty air filter, red recovery hooks, hill descent control, a trailer brake controller, an off-road suspension with a two-inch lift and Rancho shocks, skid plates, and Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud-terrain tires. Beyond that, it has ventilated front bucket seats (the other trims have a 40/20/40-split bench), heated rear outboard seats, wireless phone charging, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, two center-console USB ports (one charging and one data), an in-vehicle trailering app, and Hitch View for assistance with maneuvers during towing. The AT4X gets driver-selectable full-locking front and rear differentials (a combination not offered by any other competitor), an enhanced suspension with Multimatic DSSV dampers, a durable AEV front bumper with winch capability, a sunroof, a 15-inch head-up display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, full-grain leather upholstery, a universal home remote, a power-sliding rear window, and trailer tire pressure and temperature sensors.
The Denali builds off the AT4’s equipment list with a power-sliding rear window and a universal home remote. Similarly, the Denali Ultimate takes after the AT4X, but it forgoes the skid plates and full-locking differentials. It does, however, add massaging front seats, an adaptive air ride suspension, and power-retractable assist steps. Several of those swanky features are available for the lower trims as options. Note that the AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate can be ordered with the resilient CarbonPro composite bed, which provides 63.9 cubic feet of best-in-class cargo space.
Each ’24 Sierra 1500 trim gets the GMC Pro Safety suite, which groups forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and Buckle to Drive, which prevents the vehicle from being shifted out of park until the driver’s seatbelt is fastened. The AT4 and above add front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic braking, rear pedestrian alert, trailer side blind-zone alert, and a safety alert seat, which uses seat vibrations to help you detect the direction of potential crashes. The AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate also get a bed-view camera; the Denali and Denali Ultimate receive enhanced automatic emergency braking as well. Only the Denali and Denali Ultimate qualify for GM’s revolutionary Super Cruise hands-free driving system.
The Pro comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker sound system. The SLE and remaining trims move up to a 13.4-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The audio situation is taken to the next level in the AT4 and Denali, as they’re equipped with a seven-speaker Bose unit with a Richbass subwoofer. For those craving unparalleled auditory excellence, the AT4X and Denali Ultimate are loaded with a 12-speaker Bose system featuring CenterPoint surround sound and a weatherproof MultiPro tailgate audio system by KICKER.
