Trims and Powertrains

Chevy makes the Colorado in five trims: WT, LT, Trail Boss, ZR1, and ZR2 (the only trim eligible for the Bison Edition Package). Their powerplant a 2.7-liter turbo-four engine, but output varies by trim: the WT and LT produce 237 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, while the others make 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque (this is more than the V6 in three competitors: the Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline, and Jeep Gladiator). All trims also have an 8-speed automatic transmission. The WT and LT get standard rear-wheel drive, while the others (Trail Boss, ZR1, and ZR2) come with four-wheel drive.

The Colorado has a standard four-door cab configuration and five-foot bed, allowing the payload capacity to reach up to 1,720 pounds (Trail Boss). The WT and LT can tow up to 3,500 pounds, while the Trail Boss and ZR1 may pull a maximum of 7,700 pounds. The tow rating drops slightly to 6,000 pounds with the ZR2 (5,500 pounds with the ZR2 Bison Package).

Rear-wheel drive models provide the best EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, with 4WD changing that to 19 city/23 highway. The Trail Boss and ZR1 achieve 17 city/21 highway (the ratings for the ZR2 had not been released as of this writing).
