Buick offers the 2024 Encore GX in three trim levels: Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir, all of which are offered with either a front-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain. A turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine making 137 horsepower is earmarked for the front-wheel-drive edition of the Preferred trim. The Preferred with all-wheel-drive and the two higher trims have a turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine that makes 155 horsepower.
Encore GXs with FWD get a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while AWD-equipped versions have a nine-speed automatic transmission. The base powerplant delivers 29 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. Fuel economy for the larger engine and FWD is 29 mpg around town and 31 mpg on the open road. With AWD, the Encore GX is officially rated for 26 city/28 highway.
The Preferred has seats upholstered in a mix of cloth and leatherette, an 8-inch driver information display, LED headlights with auto on/off, single-zone manual air conditioning, proximity keyless entry, a manually adjustable tilt/telescopic steering column, push-button start, rear privacy glass, heated power side mirrors, cruise control, a cargo cover, and 18-inch aluminum wheels.
The Sport Touring is upgraded with leatherette upholstery, an auxiliary electric heater, roof-mounted side rails, unique exterior accents, LED taillights, and 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels. The Preferred and Sport Touring can be equipped with the available Comfort Package, which adds remote start, an eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar controls, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a front passenger flat-folding seatback, and a rear center armrest.
The Avenir takes the Encore GX to the next level by getting the contents of the Comfort Package as standard equipment along with leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-way power front passenger seat with lumbar controls, exclusive front and rear fascias, unique exterior treatments, a 120-volt outlet, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and premium 19-inch wheels. All trim levels are eligible for an optional power panoramic moonroof and a power liftgate (with hands-free functionality for the Avenir).
The Buick Driver Confidence Package is standard across the Encore GX range. This collection of driver aids has forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, a following distance indicator, and automatic high beams. A rear seat reminder is also included so that nobody is left behind inadvertently. All trims can be upgraded with adaptive cruise control and a surround-view monitor.
Every Encore GX has an 11-inch infotainment touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The other multimedia components are Bluetooth, a six-speaker sound system, and multiple USB ports. A seven-speaker Bose audio system is available for the Avenir alone, but wireless device charging is optional for all trims. A Wi-Fi hotspot and Buick Connected Services/OnStar (for vehicle monitoring, remote features, and emergency support) are available on a subscription basis for each trim.
