New Chevrolet 2022 Chevrolet Equinox for Sale in Johnston, RI
The Chevrolet Equinox is back with a facelift, looking to keep its place as one of America’s most popular compact crossovers – or small SUVs, if you prefer to categorize it that way. The revised fascia makes a striking statement with its trapezoid grille, narrow LED headlights, refreshed daytime running lights, and distinctively styled tailgate. Another improvement for model year 2022 is that wireless smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) and the Chevy Safety Assist driver-assist bundle are both standard on every trim level. The trim lineup has also expanded to include the RS, which stands out for its blacked-out interior and exterior. The automaker also backs up the Equinox with a fine service and warranty plan. Owners will get a year of complimentary scheduled maintenance, 3 years/36,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage, and 5 years/60,000 miles of powertrain protection and roadside assistance.
Trims and Mechanical Basics
The five-passenger 2022 Equinox comes in four trim choices – LS, LT, RS, and Premier – all of which get a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (170 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque) and a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, and all-wheel drive (AWD) can be elected on all trims. For FWD models, the EPA has estimated fuel economy at 26 mpg around town and 31 mpg on the highway; with AWD, those numbers adjust to 25 city/30 highway. The ’22 Equinox has an idle start/stop system that saves fuel by automatically shutting off and restarting the engine when it would otherwise idle (at stoplights and such). A manual override to disengage the start/stop feature debuts on this latest model.
Standard Features and Options
The ’22 Equinox can tow up to 1,500 pounds, regardless of the trim level. As for standard equipment, the base LS gets LED headlights, heated power mirrors, keyless entry and start, active noise cancellation, a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, electronic parking brake, and a 3.5-inch monochrome driver information display in the instrument cluster. The optional LS Convenience package will add an eight-way power driver seat with lumbar support, deep-tinted rear glass, and an upgraded 4.2″ diagonal multi-color driver information display.
The LT includes the LS Convenience Package as standard, along with high-intensity headlights, LED daytime running lights, body-color mirror caps, and driver and front passenger visors with illuminated mirrors. The available Confidence & Convenience Package will add a great deal: remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated driver and front passenger seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, universal home remote, a power programmable liftgate, front fog lamps, and a number of active safety technologies (rear park assist, rear cross traffic alert, and lane change alert with side blind zone alert). The Infotainment Package furnishes navigation, upgraded USB ports, a 120-volt power outlet, and a heated steering wheel.
The RS trim’s main differences are aesthetic. Blacked-out exterior trim replaces the chrome accents found on other trims; it also gets 19-inch dark-finished wheels and an exclusive interior with red contrast accents. Other standard equipment on the RS includes the contents of the Confidence & Convenience Package, front park assist, LED taillights, a power programmable liftgate, and roof-mounted side rails. The aforementioned Infotainment Package can be added, as well as the RS Leather Package (jet-black perforated leather seating and a Bose sound system with seven speakers). At the top of the hierarchy, the Premier trim is equipped similarly to the RS (minus the black exterior accents), but it gets unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, a hands-free gesture liftgate, heated power outside mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators, a heated steering wheel, inside rearview auto-dimming mirror, memory settings for the driver’s seat and outside mirrors, and premium perforated-leather seating.
Buyers can order the Confidence & Convenience II Package to get HD Surround Vision, adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist, an eight-way power front passenger seat with power lumbar support, ventilated front-row seats, and heated rear outboard seats. The available Infotainment II Package adds the HD radio as well as navigation and the Bose audio system.
Advanced Safety and Technology
As we said in the intro, Chevy Safety Assist now comes standard on every Equinox. This collection of advanced technologies helps to keep the occupants safer with automatic emergency braking, following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and IntelliBeam automatic high beam control. The LS and LT trims are eligible for the Driver Confidence II Package, which adds rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change alert with side blind zone alert. Those features are standard on the RS and Premier, as is front park assist.
The Advanced Safety Package (surround-view monitor, adaptive cruise control, and heated steering wheel) is available on all but the base LS. A high-definition rearview monitor is exclusive to the Premier, while all other trims receive a standard rear-view system. The Premier also receives the Safety Alert Seat, which vibrates to alert the driver to a potential safety issue.
A 7-inch color touchscreen infotainment system is standard on the LS, LT, and RS, while the Premier upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen (the LT and RS are eligible to upgrade to this 8-inch version with navigation). Every Equinox is set up with Amazon Alexa, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, OnStar telematics, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and front and rear USB ports.
