2021 Buick Encore GX for Sale in Johnston, RI
Just last year, Buick introduced the Encore GX as a sportier and slightly bigger alternative to the Encore subcompact crossover, which has been around since model year 2013. Besides a tad more interior space (50 cubic feet with the back seat folded flat) and a flashier look, the Encore GX tends to attract a younger driving set. For 2021, this sophomore model gets a few nice features added to its list of standard equipment: Sirius XM satellite radio and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Trims and Powertrains
The sporty and comfortable ’21 Encore GX comes in Preferred, Select, and Essence trim levels. The front-wheel drive versions come with a standard 1.2-liter turbocharged EcoTec three-cylinder engine that makes 137 hp and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Under the hood of the all-wheel drive models is a somewhat stronger 1.3-liter turbocharged EcoTec three-cylinder (155 hp and 174 lb.-ft. of torque), which is optional for the FWD Encore GX. In the FWD models, the 1.3-liter is matched to the CVT, but a nine-speed automatic is issued with AWD. Based on EPA listings, the FWD versions with the 1.2-liter powerplant return 28 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. With AWD and the larger engine, the Encore GX gets 26 city/29 highway.
Comfort and Convenience
No matter which trim of the ’21 Encore GX you opt for, you can rest assure it’ll be well appointed. The base-level Preferred has heated side mirrors, keyless entry, push-button ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a backup camera, and combination cloth/simulated-leather upholstery. A Cold Weather Comfort Package is offered to supply remote start, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The Select adds the contents of the Cold Weather Package, plus roof rails, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear-seat armrest. The optional Sport Touring Package will add special front and rear sport bumpers with red accents and Sport Touring badges.
The Essence is loaded, getting LED headlights, an in-vehicle ionizer to purify the cabin air, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a heated steering wheel, position memory for the driver’s seat, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, and leather upholstery. Buyers can add the available Convenience Package to get a wireless smartphone charger, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a rear camera mirror with washer, and an automatic parking system. A panoramic sunroof and a hands-free liftgate are available a la carte for every trim.
Safety and Technology Features
Technology is at the forefront of the ’21 Encore GX. All trims have an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, an on-board Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system. The Essence is eligible for a premium seven-speaker Bose audio system.
Buick has put state-of-the-art driver-assist technology on all Encore GX versions. The Preferred has forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist; the optional Safety Package will add adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The Select receives standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, but not adaptive cruise control. That feature is returned in the Advanced Technology Package, which also includes integrated navigation, a head-up display, and a surround-view camera system. The Essence is eligible for the Advanced Technology Package as well.
